A RARE TREAT

We all have dishes that we are fond of and sometimes only rarely manage to consume.
Mine is to simply have something, which when I was a lad, was commonplace on our family menu.

Home made fruit scones
with a topping of strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream.

One of the many culinary skills of Mrs H is the ability to quickly make light and tasty fruit scones.
We were fortunate in that a friend of ours was visiting Ulster and knowing my desire for clotted cream, happened to be in Sainsbury's when they saw and purchased a couple of pots of RODDA'S
Cornish Clotted Cream just for me !

Unfortunately, it is not available in this part of Ireland which is I think a great shame.

  1. Hi Mel - lucky you ... Rodda's is the best ... and we always had it when we went down to the St Ives - Penzance area ... so so good ... and those scones look delicious - very clever Mrs H!! This is the sort of thing we don't get here ... but we may well make it over on the farm ... as has been mooted ... Spring will have really well and truly sprung then!! Cheers Hilary

    1. Many thanks and I can commiserate with you Hilary... I have made my own, though not for several years as it quite a lengthy process and one needs a source of unpasteurised milk really.

  2. Lucky you. Wish I had some right now! Interesting plate. I spy Micky Mouse looking enthusiastic about those scones with jam and clotted cream.

    1. Hello Sarah, Thank you for the comment and I feel that I ought to tell you that those scones are absolutely
Scrumptious and that is just to make your mouth water even more so Ha' ha ha' !

You are correct about the plate it is Mickey Mouse, it actually belongs to our Grandson who left it behind a few years ago when he was on his holidays over here. Unfortunately for him Mrs H and I became very much attracted to it and being the pair of scallywags that we are did not post it back to him :)

    1. You don't have to go that far Dave.
Just use your pensioners travel pass hop on a train to Dublin and then to Connolly Street station and up to Belfast, it will be a nice little trip for you and the Missus :)

  8. All I can say Heron is that I was quite looking forward to my tea of two thins spread with humus. Now I yearn for one of those scones instead. Could you hire Mrs H out please?

    1. Oh, I am so sorry to have disturbed your taste buds Patricia... well not really, not if I were to be truthful :-)
Mrs H said "If only you were a bit nearer she would pop around with some on a dainty plate dressed with a doily "
To be more practical though as Mrs H does not do air travel. However, she is willing when she next bakes to put some in a poster tube and post them to you :)

    1. Ah well Cat never mind... you can put it on the bucket list should you ever make it across the pond to Ireland or the UK.
Sounds as if you have had an enjoyable time in the Caribbean shall go and take a peek at you photos in awhile, as I am still munching away on the scones.
